Coaches
Links to coaching information (many thanks to Dave Irons, Region 53, for the
links and text):
- www.soccerhelp.com -- This
site is aimed at coaching 5-15 year olds. There are a bunch of easy to
learn, well described and diagramed drills and games for skill building.
It also provides some tactical tips more appropriate for older age groups.
- www.flashdrills.com -- As the
url suggests, this site is loaded with games and drills that offer ways
to teach just about any skill or tactic you can imagine.
- www.and-again.com -- This site
also has a fantastic list of games and drills that are well illustrated
and described.
- www.nscaa.com -- This is the official
website of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. It is fairly
light on coaching tips, but there are some good ones. It includes some
excellent articles that lend support to AYSO philosophies. It is good
reading for any new AYSO coach who is unsure about why we focus on individual
skills rather than team results with youth teams. There is a great article
about competitive weekend tournaments that so many competitive club teams
play in. It points out that these tournaments do far more harm than good
in terms of player development.
- www.wusa.com -- This is the official
WUSA (Womens United Soccer Association) website. Of course it promotes
the new US pro league for women, but it does have an education page and
tips from pro players.
And don't forget the Laws of the Game
